Bentwood stool from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century by the company Jacob & Josef Kohn (Austria - Hungary). Kohn was the competitor of Thonet, which temporarily merged with the Thonet company after the First World War in the wake of the global economic crisis.
The piano stool is made of solid beech wood and has an upholstered seat with a new cover. The curved feet of the wide base are held together at the bottom by a wooden cross. The stool is very stable and the height can be adjusted using a steel spindle. The spindle runs well and can be locked in any position. The stool is black and the surfaces are varnished with shellac. The stool has the original Kohn embossed stamp under the seat.
The screws were tightened and the surfaces were hand-polished with traditional shellac, the metal parts were repainted gold - as is usual with Kohn - and the spindle was oiled. A beautiful collector's item in good overall condition. The seat was originally covered with Viennese wickerwork (holes in the seat ring) and the upholstery was added later.
Height 45 - 65 cm
seat diameter 38 cm
diameter of the base 50 cm
