Bentwood stool from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century by Jacob & Josef Kohn (Austria - Hungary). Kohn was Thonet's competitor, which temporarily merged with Thonet after World War I during the Great Depression. The piano stool is made of solid beechwood and has a seat made of bent plywood. The curved feet of the wide base are held together at the bottom by a wooden cross. The stool is very stable and the height can be adjusted from 46 cm to approx. 64 cm using a steel spindle. The spindle runs well, but has a little play. The stool is stained brown (dark oak?) and the surfaces are painted with shellac. The stool has the original Kohn embossed stamp under the seat. The screws have been tightened and the seat glued again. Some old worm infestation on the foot - see photo. Beautiful collector's item in good overall condition.
