Original Thonet bentwood stool, early 20th century
Original bentwood stool of the thonet company, from the 1st half of the 20th century in beautiful vintage condition. The stool is made of curved beech wood and has a second bentwood ring below the seat for stabilization. Michael Thonet developed this construction principle and applied it to many of his chairs and stools. The seat is made of plywood with a well-preserved embossing pattern. The surfaces of the stool are covered with shellac. The stool contains the Thonet embossing stamp and the paper label in the seat frame. Due to the design of the paper label, the stool can be dated to the time after 1922. Color and seat were probably renewed in a revision - originally the stool was black, see seat frame underside on picture no. 7.
The stool is in good overall condition: all screws are tight, nothing wobbles and the surfaces have been refreshed with shellac.
