Antique bentwood chair with beautiful patina, around 1900. Thonet - Vienna, model no. 14 - design Michael Thonet. On the chair there are two manufacturer's certificates: paper label and embossing stamp.
This chair was the company's best seller for decades and was often copied. This model comes from Vienna after 1881.
The chair is made of beech wood, screwed and provided with a bentwood ring for stabilization. The backrest is also connected to the seat on the side with two curved logs for stabilization. At that time, these stabilizations could be optionally booked with the purchase. This means that chair no. 14 is available with and without these two woods. The seat is made of curved plywood with a perforated pattern. The chair is of high quality and in good condition with usual signs of use on the surfaces: the bentwood parts (bent backrest made of one piece, backrest insert, side stabilizations and ring) as well as the screw connections of the back part and the front legs are in perfect condition. The surface is stained in walnut and painted with shellac.
